Aspheric lenses eliminate spherical aberration, allowing for smaller, lighter optical systems with better performance. A single aspheric lens can often replace a multi-element spherical lens assembly, reducing cost, weight, and alignment complexity.
We use three primary manufacturing methods depending on quantity and precision requirements: CNC polishing (low to medium volume, highest precision), single-point diamond turning (IR materials and freeform shapes), and precision glass molding (high volume production).
Our CNC-polished aspheres typically achieve surface form deviation from 1.0 wave PV (Commercial grade) to λ/4 PV (Precision grade), with High Precision grade reaching λ/20 PV at 633nm. Surface roughness is below 1nm RMS. Diamond-turned IR aspheres can achieve form accuracy better than 1μm PV. We provide full metrology reports including interferometry and profilometry data.
For glass molding: BK7, SK5, D-ZK3, and similar optical glasses. For CNC polishing: BK7, fused silica, CaF2, and most optical glasses. For diamond turning: ZnSe, ZnS, Si, Ge, chalcogenides, and polymers.
